RENACIMIENTO - NatCo 2007 en Lima

I HAVE A DREAM
the motto of the NatCo 2007 in Lima/Peru

This motto just fit perfectly for me, indeed I had a dream which grew in me ever since I got really involved in AIESEC. Now I made it come true – YOU made it come true AIESEC in Peru! You enabled me to chair a conference in another country, go for a new experience, live and feel AIESEC in Peru. And it was just great! It was a huge pleasure for me having been your chair, having worked with you for 3 days, seen your commitment and passion!
Thank you sooooo much guys – YOU ROCK!

Y NO SE OLVIDEN DE MI MENSAJE POR FAVOR:
TENGO SUENOS – Y LOS HAGO REALIDAD
No importa que, si se puede!
SIEGUEN ADELANTE MIS AMIGOS PERUANOS
con mucho cariño: TODO EL MEJOR

Felicitaciones a la generacion de "LOS SOBREVIVIENTES" de SDL 2007 en Guayaquil

Hearty congratulation to the generation of “los sobrevivientes” of the SDL 2007 in Guayaquil.

Leaving a conference is always somehting special to me. I do so with lots of feelings, impressions, successes, points to improve but on top of it lots of motivation, the spirit and drive I felt during the event. SDL had it all and I feel so proud of the new generation: THE SURVIVERS as they call themselves.

Why?
Because they did it all, they survived the special lunch, took full advantage of all the sessions and got the motivation to go out there and make a positive impact on society because they feel as the change agents of their generation.

My personal biggest learning point is that I have to focus much more on delegate's satisfaction than on my personal satisfaction. The difference lies in the fact that I as conference manager and facilitator knew how the things were planned and that not everything turned out as planned, that there were lots of challenges, changes in the agenda and so on. But most of that stuff happened in the background and was not visible to the delegates who just saw how the session were delivered and performed.
The fact that they all left very motivated shows me that I don’t have to worry too much about the sessions that were planned differently for not to say better than they turned out but rather focus on how it came across to the people.
And the fact that I got elected as THE BEST FACILITATOR makes me happy and I feel proud about it.

With lots of learning points in mind I can say: IT WAS A BIG SUCCESS
And I’m really proud of the new generation!

Thank you everybody: Chair, facilitators, OC and especially delegates who made it possible!

HERE you can get some impressions of the great conference. thank you judolio for always sharing your pixs and being our paparazzi...

Another thing that I have as learning point is not involving the same person in more than one conference. Being involved in three different events at the same weekend was just too much and I couldn’t do it all the way I wanted.
I was so bloody tired after the conference so that I slept 13 hours from Sunday to Monday.
Though, now I feel fully recovered and ready for my next great upcoming opportunity:
Chairing NatCo (National Conference) in Lima/Peru.

Managing 3 parallel events

At the moment I’m at full, got sooo much to do. The upcoming weekend there are three different events going on at one site and I’m involved in all of them.

There is the LDS (Leadership Development Seminar) from Thursday to Sunday where I’m conference responsible and facilitator.

There is the TtT (Train the Trainers) where I was the initiator and will run some sessions during Saturday and Sunday.

And there is the MC-Ampliado, the planning conference for all the MC and the LCP’s of AIESEC Ecuador going on at Friday and Sunday where I will also play an important role for the planning until 2010.

It’s kind of freaky but amazing and the kind of challenge I like so much. There are NO LIMITS!! Jejejeje, just need my full health and power and managing 3 different events parallel to each other will be so great!

Hehe, right now I remember that once I was saying I’m looking forward to the time when it slows down a bit, gets a bit calmer and not so stressed anymore… You know what, I guess that never happened and will never happen –

I’m an AIESECer!! :-))

ESTOY LEGALMENTE DE VUELTA EN ECUADOR Y TOTALMENTE COSTENO

Due to my expiring visa I had to leave Ecuador on the 5th of April. So together with my sweetheart I went to Mancora, in the North of Peru and enjoyed the Easter weekend there. So officially legal again I came back to Ecuador last Sunday.

On Tuesday I took the night bus to Quito for doing my area coach – was the last LC missing. But I got sick, got fever, the flue, all my body hurting, feeling weak and low. That is SOMBROSO how they call it, a typical thing that happens to COSTENOS (people living at the coast) when they go to the SIERRA (area of the mountains). What happens is that Guayaquil is at the coast, so on sea level whereas Quito is on 2200 meters above sea level, so the air is a lot thinner and there is another body pressure. What’s more that in Guayaquil the normal daily temperature is about 35 degrees Celsius in comparison to Quito’s 11 degrees which seems to a costeno just bloody freezing and is hard to adapt within a bus ride of 8 hours. I was wearing 1 T-Shirt, 1 Sweatshirt, a thickest pullover I got and a jacket and I was still trembling – freezing from within…
Although sick I managed to do all my coaching well.

I’m one day back in Guayaquil and feel so much better. SI SOY COSTENO Y NECESITO EL CALOR DE MI QUERIDO GUAYAQUIL
Yes, I’m a guy from the coast and need the hot of my beloved Guayaquil

An Ecuadorian Process

Once I was back in Guayaquil I got a letter that there is a package at the post office to be picked up by me. It’s some clothes of Liz, my old Australian friend is traveling in South America and asked me to sent me some stuff she had too much over to me. So I took the paper and went to the post office for getting her stuff. After having presented my paper they asked me to take a seat and wait. One hour later I went to ask what’s going on. They didn’t give me a satisfying answer.
After two hours only about 6 customers have been served. I figured that this is gonna take another while and since lunchtime was approaching decided to go out and have lunch. 45min later I was back and only 3 persons less till reaching my number.
More than 4 hours later than I entered the post office I could finally enter where they explained me shit lots of stuff, printed some papers that I had to go and pay to the bank and come back with the papers stamped by the bank. I thought the guy is fkn kidding me but what happens in general is that whatever you have to go and pay at the bank if not it is too risky that the money would be misused for corruption.
So I went to the bank – another que – again waiting for 30min – paying – going back to the post office, without having to do the cue again – thanks God!! – one guy typping all kind of information in the system, done. Another guy going and looking for the package, me finally getting the box about leaving the post office. Have to see another person and pay $ 1.55 so that the package can leave – just smiled and though of course I pay the renovation of the post office if only I can leave. About doing so a security officer wants to write down everything on paper again and I have to sign 3 times… Finally out but downstairs another security guy stopping me asking for some infos again and writing it down with the confirmation of my signature… then, after almost 5 hours I made it, I got the package and was out of the post office. WHAT A RELIEFE, you might imagine!

Well, I thought a lot about process management, efficiency and where the problem could be, how you could speed up the whole thing and so on. My thoughts span around bureaucracy in this country, about security and the patience of the folks and figured that it’s both – damn annoying but really interesting to see a process like that. Imagine, no one got really upset, I had a talk with some other clients waiting and all their explanation was: “This is Ecuador.” Well, with this attitude they’re not going to improve and make the change quickly I thought above all but be it, was an interesting experience…

To all the Swiss, the next time if you grab a number at the post office and have to wait 10minutes, keep cool and think about this story…
