Fight for your right
Kind of crazy what happened yesterday...
I was working in ESPOL (the university where the MC office is located) in the computer lab (due to bad infrastrusture and low internet connection in our office).
At about 12 o'clock a guy started talking loudly in the lab and I was like, please, shut up, I'm trying to work... Till I noticed that it was a teacher...!
Well so I thought it's better if I shut up and just pretent to be a student and follow him... Hehehe, I don't know if he doesn't know his students or if he didn't mind having me in his class. In the end it didn't matter cause I could stay. Till the information came through that the grandmother of the director died. Here in Ecuador it's not just a, well I'm sorry and the person can of course go home to his family. No, the WHOLE UNIVERSITY GOT OFF!
All the classes for the day got cancelled! Imagine...
So I had to leave the lab because they were closing. On the bus stop there were unusual few people. I waited about 20 min for a bus which then took me just to the end of the campus where I had to get off instead of being able to keep sitting, waiting others to board the bus and then leaving downtown. No, I had to get off, which I really didn't. Cause that was the reason why further up on the campus were no people - cause everybody was down here at the final station in a HUGE LINE!!! I don't know, 300 to 500 people queing!!!
¡Chucha! I thought, I'm not gonna line up after waiting for so long up there for the bus. Furthermore I have a MC meeting at the other university...
Then the horror begun... EVERYBODY, people standing in the line, the ones that were pushing themselves forward and my group of the ones who had to leave and re-enter the bus started to fight for the little entrance of the bus. Of course it was withouth yelling, biting, hitting and kicking - but it was aweful...!! at the same time kind of funny though to me. Latest when I made it in the bus ;-)
I fought for my right...
and of course asked myself a lot of questions afterwards.
1st why does the whole uni get off if a familymember of a director or whatever high person dies?
--> custom here, I've got answered later
2nd why does the administration of the uni not organise more busdrivers? cause at the parkinglot were a lot of school buses (ESPOL buses)?
--> ¿organizational skills, flexibility? I don't know
3rd why do people not just sit back and relax if they get a day off?? Otherwise everybody who was waiting for a bus at this point of time would have had some more hours at the uni. So where is the rush?
(I had a meeting to attend - because it got shifted due to the death of the directors mother from ESPOL to Catolica)
I remember that everybody run home when our highschool was short before getting blowed up and just us organized a beer and waited outside for the Alpequai to explode.
4th why do I have so many questions when everybody else doesn't mind about nothing?!
ok stop, otherwise I'll loose myself
and I don't want that to happen now!!
so, chill and relax guys
enjoy every moment to it's full

i guess a lot of these questions have the 'mob tendency' concept behind them gio :)
what that basically means is that an individual will more often than not do what a large group (or mob) is doing without really knowing why. the theory being that if so many people are doing it, it must be right....
so cool to c u keep a humorous angle to all these stories..
we gotta chat up on skype sometime soon man, let me know when.

hahaha, unfortunately we never had a bomb threat at high school, so boooooring ;-)
I was just wondering, the swiss guy you were doing the 1st of August presentation with, is it Felix who's studying in Geneva? If it's him please send him my greetings the next time you see him, ok? I remember him being all excited about possibly going to Ecuador when we had DT preparation at the TPS (Trainee Preparation Seminar - just another name...)
besos, Sarah

Hi, i think i can try to explain you this... the classes were suspended because the person who died was the father of the "rector" i guess, it means the VERY BIG BOSS at university, so the classes were stopped not for the funeral itself but for the thing that 1.employees wanted to show the higest respect possible, 2.they all had to attend the funeral, 3.they were affraid that if didnt show up at funeral or show up how important this lost was ...they might not be in good terms with rector(latins are very sentimental about this. 4.they didnt want to work either so this was a good excuse to stop :). Not sure if it makes sense for you but thats sort of logical here.. if it would have been a single teacher's relative this would have not happened.
Why the busses were parked and not being used? cause they were waiting to take all employees from Univ. to the funeral.Logistically it makes sense you see ;)
Why there was this long queue? cause all students were free
Why people fighted to get into the buss? because opposite to employess students dont HAVE to go to the funeral, so they want to go home soon because the Espol campus is so fucking far!!!
My advice....if you want to go out of Espol campus fast....make a new friend who owns a car among the students and learn his mobile and class schedule...it always help. lol.
Be patient, friend :), not all things in Ecuador work in organised way, and logic here might not make sense for you, it happen the same with us when we go to Europe, but slowly you will get used to it :). Wish you the best!!

hey, just saw pictures from you in AXLDS Colombia. i must admit, you without shirt on a bar dancing looks good ;)
concerning your bus stories, i have some more from china.
1. why can you not go into the bus through all the doors but just the 3de when the bus has 4 doors, the 2nd when it has 3 doors and sometimes the front doors when, man i don't know when...
2. why do people not wait for the people to get out of the bus and then go in later? it yould be so much quicker...
a lot of questions, and i'm sure you'll not find satisfying answers, unless you like those: "it's like this in our culture" responses :)
have fun, cheers from china
